Start planning furniture sales before leaving the UAE as soon as your departure and property handover dates are clear. Give yourself time to compare a purchase offer with private sales, arrange building access and deal with items that no buyer accepts.
The four-week outline below is a planning example. It is not a fixed processing timeline for every building or service provider.
Four weeks before: decide what is yours and what goes
Separate your belongings into moving, selling, donating and disposal groups. In a furnished rental, check the inventory so landlord-owned furniture is not offered for sale.
If you are shipping furniture, obtain a shipping quote before assuming it is cheaper to keep everything. Record the dimensions of large pieces and compare replacement costs at the destination.
Three weeks before: photograph and compare
Take a wide photo of each room and separate photos of the included pieces. Show damage, model labels and missing parts. Write an item list and ask for a full-lot assessment.
If you also want to list individual items privately, set a review date so unsold pieces do not remain an unresolved task before your flight. Bundling may simplify collection, but it does not always pay more. Read our selling-options comparison.
Two weeks before: confirm the collection plan
Ask your building management about permissions, lift bookings, approved hours and loading access. Requirements vary, so confirm the actual lead time for your property.
Agree the items, purchase amount, inspection conditions and payment timing. Ask what happens to unsuitable furniture and whether removal has a separate cost. A furniture sale does not automatically include every object in the home.
One week before: update the inventory
If some pieces sold privately or you decided to keep them, update the buyer. Label the items that stay and gather included keys, remotes and fittings.
Empty drawers and cupboards of personal documents and belongings. Coordinate any appliance demonstration, shutdown and safe disconnection before collection. Confirm utilities and other closures directly with the relevant providers, in line with your own handover plan.
Final days: leave time for remaining work
Avoid making the collection and handover the same appointment if you can leave a buffer. After collection, check the agreed inventory, confirm payment and identify anything still needing removal.
Arrange cleaning and any required work once the relevant furniture is out. Keep your own record of the condition of the property at handover.
Questions before departure
Can I still get help with only a few days left?
Ask immediately and give the real deadline. Collection depends on acceptance, crew availability and approved access. See our same-day guide.
Should I close the electricity first?
Coordinate the timing. Working appliances may need an agreed demonstration, followed by safe preparation. Check account closure arrangements with your provider rather than assuming a universal sequence.
Will the buyer take everything?
Only rely on the agreed scope. Confirm items with no resale value separately and arrange alternatives where needed.
